Inability to Use Medication Safely.

As people get older, proper use of medications becomes more crucial. Those who tend to forget to take meds or those who tend to accidentally take them twice are at great risk, especially when certain heart medications are involved. An extra dose of some medications can be deadly. Missing a dose of the same medications could also be fatal. Nothing matches the horror of holding that pill bottle, unable to remember if the dose was taken or not. For this reason, it may not be wise to allow someone with memory loss to manage their own medications. In most situations medications could be managed by family members, but sometimes that may not be feasible. Most ALFs offer medication management. This is a service that could save a life.
